Maverick Head Coach – Terry Garza’s Bio:
Coach Terry J. Garza is completing his 13th year at Pasadena Memorial High School, and will be in his fifth year as the Head Coach for Pasadena Memorial. He graduated from Dobie High School where he was a three year letterman, while playing for Coach Mike Morgan. He received Honorable Mention his junior year as a pitcher and was named All District his senior year for his play in the outfield. Garza attended Alvin Community College and was named All Conference Pitcher in 1985 and was a member of the Junior College All Star Team in 1985. While at Alvin Community College he played with former Major Leaguers Woody Williams and Mike Stanton. Coach Garza graduated from the University of Houston in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. He completed his Masters Degree from the University of St. Thomas in Education in 2005. Coach Garza also completed s second Master’s Degree from Lamar University in School Administration in 2009. Garza is in his sixteenth year as a baseball coach spending one year at Dobie High School, two years at South Houston High School, and the last thirteen years at Memorial, where he also teaches Physical Education. He works summers for the past thirteen years for Coach Graham and Rice University Baseball. Coach Garza is also a Southeast Regional Director for the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association, and is a member of the National Baseball Coaches Association, and a District Chairman for the 22-6A District.
Coach Garza is married to Melissa Ann who is the Principal at De Zavala Middle School in Pasadena ISD. Terry y and Melissa have a twelve year old daughter named Aleyna Rose
Varsity Assistant Coach – Kerry McGrew’s Bio:
Coach McGrew graduated from Pasadena High School in 1970. After working in the petrochemical industry for 20 years, he returned to college to pursue his lifelong dream of teaching and coaching. He graduated with a history degree in 1998 from the University of Houston at Clear Lake. He began his teaching/ coaching career at Alice Johnson Junior High in Channelview, Texas in 1998, before moving on to Park View Intermediate in 1999. He came to Pasadena Memorial in 2003 to coach baseball and basketball, before moving to Syracuse, New York in 2010-2011 when his wife Laura promoted within her company. While there, he coached JV baseball and football at Chittenango High School. He and Laura moved back to the Houston area in January 2012 and he returned to the staff at PMHS full time, coaching football and baseball, while teaching Economics. Coach McGrew and Laura have four sons, ages 28-36, and two grandsons, Grady and Ace, in Seattle. Grady is 8 years old, and his little brother Ace is 8 months old. They love their grandkids and enjoy their time together. Coach and his wife Laura are also proud parents of Radley, a 5 yr. old Rhodesian Ridgeback. He adds much joy to their lives.
Jr. Varsity Coach- Chris Pressly Bio:
Coach Chris Pressly is a 1991 graduate of William P. Clements High School in Sugarland, Texas. He attended Texas Tech University and finished his last two years at The University of Houston, where he received a degree in Communication Studies. Initially he was interested in going into the business world, but having a mother in Education changed his mind. He began his teaching career at Stephen F. Austin High School in Sugarland, Texas where he coached football and baseball for 7 years. He then spent three years in Lamar Isd at Terry High School and a year at George Ranch High School. After moving to Fort Worth for two years and coaching football and baseball at Castleberry High School, he returned back home to Houston and started his career at Pasadena Memorial High School. Coach Pressly currently coaches football and baseball and is a Journalism teacher here at Memorial.
Coach Pressly is a native Houstonian and has three sisters and a mother who are all educators. His grandfather was a graduate of U of H and the first to receive a letterman. He is a third generation Cougar graduate.
Sophomore Coach: Coach Shawn Mulligan’s Bio:
Coach Mulligan graduated from Georgetown High School in 1985, where he played football and baseball. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from Wright State University in Ohio, majoring in Political Science. He then earned his Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law.
He began coaching baseball, football and golf at Dickinson High School, where he worked for six years. Coach Mulligan then coached football at Dobie High School as an assistant Offensive Line coach and this is his first year at PMHS. He currently coaches the sophomore baseball team, and is an assistant defensive coach for the football team. Coach Mulligan teaches U.S. Government and has two sons Kyle, 23, and Reece, 20. In total, he has coached 16 different teams in Little League/Pony League for his son’s teams and volunteering to coach other teams. He lives with his English Mastiff, Bodhi, and enjoys playing golf in his spare time.
Coach Mulligan is also responsible for initiating the Pasadena ISD’s first ever Teen Court Program in conjunction with the city of Pasadena’s Municipal Courts, and the Dr. Kirk Lewis Career and Technical High School.
